In a few more weeks I can start my research. I'm very excited to get started. I'll be doing weekly updates then, partly to remind myself of what I accomplished each week. I'll be traveling around the state visiting the Sunland sites. Quite a bit of my research will be in Gainesville and Tallahassee, but I will visit each former site of a Sunland center.
I attended a conference in Phoenix, AZ, a couple of weeks ago, and ran into a colleague who now lives in Canada. She gave me another lead on a nurse who worked at Sunland. I'm finding lots of these connections and they have been invaluable. However, I'm still seeking connections and contact information on any clinicians or family members of former Sunland patients that I can meet and request their participation in this history project. If you know of anyone who might assist, please send me a post on this blog, thanks in advance.
In August I will visit Carville, LA as an example of another public health hospital. I will post a picture of Carville, then I'll start the weekly updates.
